AVG Client Installation Using the AVG S-Tool
AVG S-Tool is an application that performs AVG installation on all network workstations at once.
AVG S-Tool maintenance principles
- on a selected client station install AVG with the desired configuration
- install AVG S-Tool on the same station
- AVG S-Tool creates a configuration template based on the installed AVG configuration, and installs all AVG clients in the network with the same configuration
- using AVGADMIN, you can then edit a particular AVG client configuration in the AVG DataCenter (for full control we recommend choosing the AVG DataCenter Mandatory mode)
AVG S-Tool is already installed (with AVG DataCenter and AVGADMIN at once), therefore there is no need to install it separately.
AVG Client Installation Steps
- launch AVGADMIN/AVG S-Tool from the Start menu
- in the AVG Installation Script Generator - Setup mode selection dialog window keep the Basic installation mode; the Advanced mode is recommended to highly experienced network administrators only!
- in the same dialog window, choose an option for installation script creation and execution: the "NETWORK" option in this case
- click OK to enter the next AVG Installation Script Generator dialog window: the Settings tab. Edit the following parameters:
- License number: type in your license number
- Remote administration: type in the AVG DataCenter location
- Batch properties: choose whether you want to restart the computer after the AVG client installation
- The batch, script, and the AVG setup files directory: fill in the directory path
- go to the Remote setup tab and press the Find button: the Domain option is recommended (the IP option is restricted to experienced network administrators only)
- browse the network by choosing the Network neighborhood option; a list of stations accompanied by their current configuration information will be provided
- the Force install option: to reinstall AVG on all workstations regardless their previous installation and configuration, select this option
- press the Install AVG button to start the AVG client installation process
- when prompted by the OS, enter the administrator access rights for target computer
Notice!
Should the AVG remote installation on a single station fail, the likely reason is that the target station runs Windows 9x/Me/XP Home OS. Unlike the OS Windows 2000/2003/XP, Windows 9x/Me/XP Home do not support remote access. For these OS, there is an alternative solution of AVG installation. Add the avgagent.exe program into the login scripts for those stations. You can find avgagent.exe in the AVGADMIN program folder.
