DataCenter and AVGADMIN installation
AVG DataCenter Database Selection
DataCenter can work with various database types. However, it is required that the communication between the DataCenter and AVG clients is established with AVGADMIN. There are several database server options:
- AVG TCP Server: recommended solution; no additional requirements; suitable for almost any computer network
- Microsoft SQL Server: using ODBC drivers
- Firebird SQL Server: direct connection using the native interface or ODBC drivers
AVG DataCenter, TCP Server and AVGADMIN applications are executed from a single file:
- AVG DataCenter and AVG TCP Server will be installed together on the same computer
- AVGADMIN may be installed (but not necessarily) on the same computer as the AVG DataCenter
During installation you will be asked whether you want to install AVG DataCenter and AVGADMIN on the same computer.
AVG DataCenter and AVGADMIN installation steps:
- Computer selection
Should you want to install AVG DataCenter and AVGADMIN on the same computer, select a file server with the OS Windows installed and to which all client stations are connected. The file server should be turned on at all times.
If you want to install AVG DataCenter and AVGADMIN separately, select:
-
a permanently running file server with the OS Windows installed to which all client stations are connected
-
any OS Windows powered computer for AVGADMIN; it is better to select a computer turned on at all times as well, but it is not essential
- Launching the installation
- from the installation CD execute AVGADMIN / avg75adm_XXX.exe (XXX stands for the internal program version number)
- during installation you will be asked to select components you want to install: your decision depends on whether you want the AVG DataCenter and AVGADMIN to be installed together, or separately
- in the same dialog window confirm the AVG Script Tool installation (to be used later)
- finish the installation - AVG TCP Server will be launched automatically
