Top 10 Cyber Security tips

According to the National Cyber Security Alliance and its Web site (StaySafeOnline.info), here are the Top 10 Cyber Security Tips that will help you stay safe online. In order of importance (#1 being most important), they are:

1. Use anti-virus software and keep it up to date.

2. Don't open e-mails or attachments from unknown sources. Be suspicious of any unexpected e-mail attachments even if it appears to be from someone you know.

3. Protect your computer from Internet intruders -- use a firewall.

4. Regularly download security updates and "patches" for your operating systems and other software.

5. Use hard-to-guess passwords. Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, or other characters not easy to find in a dictionary, and make sure they are at least eight characters long.

6. Back up your computer data on disks or CDs regularly.

7. Don't share access to your computers with strangers. Learn about file sharing risks.

8. Disconnect from the Internet when not in use.

9. Check your security on a regular basis. When you change your clocks for daylight-savings time, reevaluate your computer security.

10. Make sure your family members/computer users know what to do if your computer becomes infected.

The key to success is the right combination of common sense and technology!

A New Era in Computer Protection: AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall

Grisoft is pleased to announce the release of an exciting new product -- a single software solution that combines all the virus protection and capabilities of AVG Anti-Virus version 7 plus built-in firewall protection.

Like all of the AVG products, AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall provides all of Grisoft's advanced virus detection methods, including heuristic analysis, generic detection, scanning, and integrity checking. The sophisticated testing engine proactively scans data for patterns of virus code and disarms it, on demand or automatically.

AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall also features a new integrated firewall component that helps prevent information from being accessed or sent from your computer without your permission. The AVG Firewall helps to maintain privacy and protect personal information on your computer -- hiding it from external hackers and guarding against Trojan horses and malware. AVG Firewall also controls how your computer exchanges data with other users on the Internet or a local network. And because the AVG Firewall is fully integrated, it is easy to set up and manage using the Control Center -- the same intuitive interface used for managing and customizing the virus protection capabilities.

And as a registered user of AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall , you would also enjoy free, 24x7 e-mail access to Grisoft Technical Support -- a service not available with AVG Free.

In addition, AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall offers other great features:

  • Access to reliable, worldwide, high-speed professional server networks for downloading update files -- so users never have to worry that updates will not be readily available because of high server demand or network congestion
  • Support for a growing list of languages -- providing users with the best possible virus protection plus an intuitive interface in their native language (Current languages available: English, Czech, Slovak, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Hungarian, Serbian)
  • Options for configuring multiple program and test settings -- allowing users to better tailor the software to their needs and preferences
  • The ability to create custom tests and schedules -- unlike AVG Free, which only allows one scheduled update or scan per day
  • Advanced testing options such as automatic healing, password-protected archives reporting, and scan process prioritizing

And the license price is right!

Unlike other companies' anti-virus software, AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall is competitively priced AND comes with a standard 2-year license. That eliminates the need to renew every year and gives you free virus updates plus any new features or product upgrades created during the license period. So with AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall, you'd get 2 years of protection -- and two products in one -- for only $48.95.

AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall is available through Grisoft's extensive network of resellers and distributors as well as directly from its home page ( www.grisoft.com ). To upgrade today, just click here.

What Makes an Anti-Virus Solution Great?

Here is a list of the best attributes of anti-virus software according to Anti-Virus Software Review.

Ease of Use — How easy is it to install the software? To go from installation to scanning for infected files?

Effective Identification of Viruses and Worms
— Does it quickly identify infected files with a real-time scanner no matter how the file arrived (via e-mail, IM, Web browsing, etc.)?

Effective Cleaning or Isolating of Infected Files — Does the product thoroughly clean, delete, or quarantine the infected file to stop the spread of the virus?

Activity Reporting
— Can you view what on-demand scans found and what they did with any infected files? Are you notified immediately with real-time scanning?

Rich Feature Set — What type of scanning engines are used? Real-time scanning only? Or scheduled also? Are features easy to access and understand?

Ease of Installation and Setup — How easy is it to install the software? To go from installation to scanning?

Help Documentation — Is there a help document available? Is it useful? Easy to understand? Can you get answers easily?

With the right anti-virus software — such as AVG Professional Single Edition, which has all the attributes identified — plus regular virus updates, you can be confident that your computer and files are protected.

You're protected at home -- but what about at work?

While AVG Free is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only, Grisoft offers a complete line of products for use by organizations and businesses -- protecting everything from individual PCs to servers, e-mail servers, and entire networks of users! Grisoft also offers discounts to non-profit organizations; to see if your organization is eligible, contact us.

More and more businesses and organizations use AVG products to protect their computer resources and mission-critical data from viruses. Not surprisingly, many of these AVG users we talk to started as home users of AVG Free! And for all of these paying customers, the consensus is that AVG products are a smart investment -- easy to install, use, and manage, cost-effective to maintain, and a powerhouse when it comes to detecting and stopping viruses.
